Job Description:
FactSet Research Systems Inc. is looking for a talented Software Engineer who will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining market data client websites. The system provides users with in-depth information around the financial instruments and news evaluated by FactSet or imported from third party vendors. Potential candidate must be a well-rounded developer who has experience developing for projects that have a significant level of complexity but at the same time have a thorough understanding of the full-lifecycle of a web development project.
Potential candidate must be able to troubleshoot issues and work with appropriate teams to resolve them according to SLAs. Must have thorough knowledge of Software Engineering principles and best practices. A wide range of discretion and judgment is expected of this candidate to work independently to plan and accomplish goals. This individual must also possess a high degree of creativity and a strong talent for problem-solving to conquer complex technical obstacles.
- Makes effective use of development environment and tools
- Proposing and documenting software design, analyzing requirements, and presenting implementation options
- Contributes regularly in technical discussions
- Understanding the full software development lifecycle (SDLC)
- Embracing development best practices, and communicating clearly and effectively with peers, users, testers, and supervisors
- Hands on approach analyzing existing code, writing new code, testing, debugging and providing production support
- Working on an onshore/offshore model
Eligibility Criteria:
- B.Tech or M.Tech in Computer Science or equivalent
- 2.5 – 4 years of industry experience.
Skills Required:
- Professional experience with PHP is mandatory. Good understanding of MVC architecture and any one framework like Zend, Laravel, Symphony etc.
- Strong proficiency with JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Minimum Knowledge of Node.js and frameworks available for it such as Express, StrongLoop, etc. depending on your technology stack.
- Experience working with any frontend JS framework such as VueJS or AngularJS or ReactJS is an added advantage.
- Understanding how package managers such as composer, npm and yarn work
- Working knowledge with markup languages like HTML and CSS
- Understanding of responsive design
- Working experience with RESTful APIs (consuming the API required, and creating the API is nice to have)
- Understanding and dedication to software development best practices including familiarity with agile development methodologies.
- Experience with design-for-testability and unit-tests
- Version control experience with Git
- Excellent problem solving and communication skills both spoken and written
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Willingness to work as a member of a team, including participating in peer code reviews and maintaining project and operational documentation
- Ability to work as part of a geographically diverse team
- Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical people
